Creating Perfection ~ freelance fiction editor

Welcome to Creating Perfection.

I’m Emma Mitchell, a freelance fiction editor from Bradford, West Yorkshire.

Working with a professional editor is one of the most important steps on your publishing journey.

I offer a complete publishing service, from developmental and copy-editing to proofreading and formatting, synopsis assistance to editorial guidance, I will guide you through the whole publishing process.

Whether you intend to submit to agents and/or publishers, or you’re self-publishing, presenting your readers with a manuscript that is the best it can be is essential.

I work closely with all my authors to ensure I know what they want from me, what their hopes are for the reader’s experience, and to get to know their characters just as much as they do.

I pride myself on balancing the voice of the author with the needs of the reader.

‘Emma doesn’t just make corrections for me; she has an incredible ability to understand my voice and make changes that enhance my work in so many ways. Without her edit of The Afterlife of Walter Augustus, I doubt very much that it would have won the Kindle Storyteller Award or the been a Gold Medallist at the IPPY Awards. She has now edited four books for me with two more in the pipeline. Working with Emma is always a pleasure.’

Hannah Lynn – award-winning author

Whether you need help with the direction of your work in progress, advice on your synopsis and submission package, or are ready for a complete edit or proofread, I can help. I work with indie and self-published authors in most genres of fiction and can edit your manuscript to either British or American English spelling and grammar rules.

You will also find a wealth of information in my blog posts, from case studies on self-published authors to self-editing help, there’s something for everyone.

‘As an author who is new to all this, I thought I would self-edit to start with. After all, my English is pretty good, right? Wrong! Emma was absolutely brilliant, going through the script meticulously – she even diagnosed that I suffered from a rare and previously undiscovered condition called ‘However Tourettes.’ Thankfully it’s not terminal! Her working methods are easy to understand, even for a techno-phobic imbecile like myself. All her comments were useful and encouraging, some of them left me grinning in delight. Thank-you Emma, I’ve never been quite so happy to be proved wrong! I would recommend Emma unreservedly.’
